A group of American Footballers from the Leicester Falcons club were among the competitors in The Ultimate Big Boot at Welford Road on Saturday, aiming to overhaul Old Laurentians RFC at the top of the season’s scoreboard.
The Falcons team made five catches to win their head-to-head against the students of East Bergholt School in Suffolk but were still five short of the season’s best, set by the players of Old Laurentians in Rugby.
Daniel Burton was part of the Falcons group and said: "It was a buzz to get out there. We use a similar-shaped ball and it’s a big ‘well done’ to the lads.”
Neil Weedon accompanied the East Bergholt School group, who made three catches, and said: "It’s been a great day out. We’ve come all the way from Suffolk and were able to catch three out of the 10 attempts so it was a good effort from all the girls.”
Sponsored by De Montfort University, the Ultimate Big Boot allows groups to show their skills in front of a big Tigers crowd, challenging them to catch balls fired high into the sky as part of the half-time entertainment.
There is an Ultimate Big Boot jackpot prize for any team that can claim a full set of 10 catches, starting at £2,000.
The Ultimate Big Boot is available to Tigers group bookings. Participants must be aged 14 or over. All participants receive a Big Boot T-shirt as a souvenir. For more information, phone the Tigers Group Days team on 0116 2171 216.
