Leicester Tigers Academy lock Rob Carmichael has joined Edinburgh Rugby on-loan until the end of the season ahead of a permanent move to the Scottish club in the Summer.
Carmichael was born and raised in Hong Kong after his Scottish father, and English/Welsh mother, emigrated to Asia just under 30 years ago. He came through the ranks at Sandy Bay RFC before the family returned to the UK in 2019.
That year he joined the Tigers academy, making two Premiership Cup appearances alongside representing England U20, remaining eligible for Scotland by ancestry.
Leicester Tigers General Manager, Richard Wilks said: “Rob’s a quality young person and has committed himself to our program so we felt it was appropriate to allow him to get a head start with Edinburgh and begin his career in Scotland.”
“With the likes of Cam Henderson here, the Chessum brothers, George Martin and young Finn Carnduff; it’s an extremely competitive position at the club to get the minutes required for a young lock to develop so again, it was right in this instance to allow Rob to leave on-loan.”
