This week saw the first-ever Tigers Masterclasses, one-day camps tailored to specific skills within rugby, focused sessions on areas such as kicking, the contact area and attacking skills, delivered by Tigers Coaches and special Guest Coaches who specialise in these areas at the highest level.
Those who attended the camps also got the chance live the dreams of many by playing on the pitch at Mattioli Woods Welford Road!
The first session of the week was our Girls Masterclass with guest coaches Head of Women's Rugby (and former England international) Vicky Macqueen, Leicester Tigers women's team captain Natasha Jones and Tigers women's player Holly Williams.
Attacking play and handling skills was guest coached by former Tigers player Anthony Allen, the inside-centre having made well over 100 appearances for the club and, after retiring at just 28 years old due to a persistent knee injury, has served as the clubs Head Academy Coach.
Allen, a former Players Player of the year and Man of the Match in Tigers' victorious 2013 Premiership final was well-placed to guest coach the session, the back having also formerly served as England u20's attack and backs coach.
The Defensive skills and the Contact area saw Tigers player Olly Cracknell arrive to lend his expertise and help guest coach the session.
The Leeds born back-rower has shown exceptional versatility in his short time at Leicester Tigers. The abrasive forward has started games in all three positions across the back-row in the Gallagher Premiership this season and made 212 tackles in the 2022/23 Gallagher Premiership season alone, making him ideal for a Masterclass on how to dominate the contact zone and succeed at the breakdown.
The Kicking skills Masterclass was the final session of the week. Leicester Tigers have forever been tied to exceptional goal kickers, from Dusty Hare through to Handré Pollard.
The session was run by Lead Academy Coach Geraint Davies and Academy star Morgan Meredith, who went through all manner of kicking techniques, from goal-kicking to kicking for touch, to in-game kicking to control territory.
A massive thank you to all our guest coaches and everyone who attended our camps for all your hard work!
