The Prima Tiger Cup for teams in the Leicester Tigers region returns this weekend with the first festival since before the Covid lockdown.
Thanks to the continued support of Prima Solutions Ltd, one of the club’s longest-serving sponsors, this popular event for under-10s teams kicks off in its 28th year at Lichfield RFC this Sunday.
Newark, Holt and Syston rugby clubs also host festival events this month in one of rugby’s biggest and longest-standing age-group events with thousands of youngsters representing scores of clubs gaining experience in it since the 1994/95 season – making this even older than elite rugby’s European Cup!
Following the festivals, selected teams will be invited to the home of the Tigers to play at one of rugby’s most iconic stadiums at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.
Match rules take into account the RFU Age Grade guidelines amended during the Covid period while also reflecting true Tigers values of the game.
Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said: “John Norman and his team at Prima Solutions have supported Tigers and the work we do in developing the community game for nearly three decades and through the Prima Tiger Cup they have always focused on creating opportunities for youngsters to participate in exciting and positive experiences with the Tigers.
“We are delighted that they are able to continue to provide that support to ensure the Prima Tiger Cup continues to build on its amazing history.
“Confirming their support for the next two seasons ensures young players will receive their first experience of playing in a Tigers event and potentially running out at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.”
