New routes in and out of stadium

Figure image
Leicester Tigers welcome London Irish for the first home game of the Guinness Premiership season on Saturday and, with redevelopment work well under way, supporters will be able to monitor progress week by week on construction of the new Caterpillar Stand.

Managing director David Clayton said: “This is an exciting time for everyone involved with the club and in many ways signals the start of a new era. At Leicester Tigers we have always been fiercely proud of our progress on and off the pitch. Now we are starting a redevelopment programme that will offer superb facilities for all of our supporters, corporate guests, and conference and events customers.

“Galliford Try has been appointed as stadium contractor. The company also built the Alliance & Leicester Stand, and will be working closely with our project management team from FWP and the management of the club.”

New entry and exit procedures are in place this season as development continues and the club would like all supporters to make themselves familiar with the information. It would also be appreciated if supporters try to arrive at the ground a little earlier than normal and allow a little extra time to get in and out of your places.

“Unfortunately, there may be some disruption during construction, but we would ask for your understanding and co-operation during the season,” added Clayton.

Tickets are still available for Saturday's game, contact the Tigers ticket office on 08701 28 34 30, call in at Welford Road or book online.

Important information on access to Welford Road stadium

Work is now in progress on phase one of the redevelopment of Welford Road, with a new Caterpillar Stand on the north side of the stadium due to be completed for the 2009/10 season.

Work at this stage will not affect supporters’ seats on matchday, but there will be new entry and exit routes. Please read these carefully to reduce any inconvenience on matchday.

Using the Caterpillar Stand
A new entry and exit procedure is in place on the north side of the stadium. This is to allow the safe and efficient movement of supporters during the work.

Car-parking has been moved to the Crumbie Stand side of the stadium on the site of the former Fosse Day Centre, with access from Aylestone Road. The former car-parking area is now a compound for contractors and a walkway is being used to allow entry to and exit from the Caterpillar Stand.

For supporters in the Caterpillar Stand
• The walkway adjacent to the contractors’ compound has entrances at each end. These will be opened at the same time as the turnstiles, two hours before kick-off.
• Walkway gates will be stewarded to control the flow to the turnstiles.
• Spectators with tickets for the Caterpillar Stand ONLY are allowed to enter the walkway.
• Pushchairs are not allowed in the walkway.
• Turnstile 2 (in the corner of the Caterpillar Stand near the Ticket Office) is now an extra entrance to the Caterpillar Stand rather than the clubhouse end.
• An extra turnstile will be available on Aylestone Walk for access to the Clubhouse Stand.
• The bars in the Caterpillar Stand will still be in use.

All other supporters:
• Supporters wishing to enter any of the Alliance & Leicester, Crumbie or Clubhouse Stands will NOT be allowed to use the walkway on the north side of the stadium as a thoroughfare to access their turnstile under any circumstances.
• Signs have been erected at each end of the stadium to provide more information and help to ensure supporters do not attempt to enter the walkway unless they sit in that stand.

For supporters in the Caterpillar Stand at the end of the game:
• You will be directed away from the top of each set of steps and will not be allowed to use the exits to the rear walkway.
• Exit is at each end of the Caterpillar Stand only.
• Extra pitchside stewards will direct supporters to their closest exit.
• Customers using the Droglites Bar will be allowed to use the steps to the bar only.

Parking at Welford Road
The club’s car-parking area on the Granby Halls side of the stadium is now closed and cordoned off as part of the construction compound. Car-parking for visitors and guests is in the Crumbie Car Park, on the site of the former Fosse Day Centre. Access is from Aylestone Road, 100 yards before Aylestone Walk and the corner of the Clubhouse/Crumbie Stands.
